Tom Wood's CV Joint Driveshaft

by: J.R. Farrar

As you may have read, Project X received a CV style driveshaft soon after the lift installation. I called and talked to Rubicon Express and they recommended their slip yoke eliminator kit and CV style driveshaft. After receiving and installing the Slip-Yoke eliminator and CV driveshaft I still had some vibration problems. One of the suspect parts was the CV shaft that Currie Enterprises supplied to Rubicon and which Rubicon Express sold to me. I was VERY unimpressed with the quality and packaging, and therefore suspected the driveshaft to be part of the problem.

After seeing the quality of Currie/Rubicon Express driveshaft I knew I had made a mistake and not ordered the shaft from Tom Wood. I have ordered many driveshafts from Tom in the past, and have always been extremely happy with the service. The moral of this story: I will never buy another driveshaft anywhere else other than Tom Wood again. His quality, level of expertise and service is unsurpassable in my opinion.

I received the new driveshaft from Tom Wood and unpacked it from it's very protective packaging. He even included the Locktite to use on the strap bolts! The shaft has a CV joint, heavy duty splines, a boot to protect the splines (oh and this reminds me, when I pulled the Currie/Rubicon express shaft off I could barely budge the splines! When I finally had to tap on it to get it to move, rusty water came spurting out the overfill hole for the splines! Of course Rubicon assured me that a boot was not required and there would be no problems without it.) and they even polished the driveshaft! Even though the driveshaft doesn't need to look good, this one does!

Shown is the Tom Wood's shaft above and the Rubicon/Currie shaft below. You can even see the rust and scratches on the bottom shaft from the poor packaging.
